Making of the “Pure Inspiration” Beauty Pass

Below you’ll find a fun little video that shows myself, Nick, and Richard setting up the table for the Nikon Df beauty pass for the opening of Pure Inspiration.

There was lots of Nikon gear on hand, but for this bit of historical reflection we decided to include two FTn bodies with Nikkor-P 105mm f/2.5 pre-AI and Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 pre-AI lenses, respectively; a Nikon SP (the one camera in our studio that really did look like it had been through the war), and, of course, the Df itself.

These cameras were accompanied by plenty of paraphernalia and memorabilia, both from Nikon and the world of photojournalism.

For LIFE magazine fans and Nikon history buffs, two issues of the storied magazine are featured and of particular noteworthiness:

1) LIFE Magazine June 22, 1962 – Marilyn Monroe Skinny-dips. Photographed by Lawrence Schiller who confirmed to yours truly that the image was shot with a Nikon F and the Nikkor-P 105mm f/2.5.

2) LIFE Magazine April 16, 1965 – Vietnam War Helicopter Crew, Deadly Fight by Larry Burrows. Photographed with the Nikon F.
